How to Read Ebooks without an E-Reader

I don't know who needs to hear this, but you don't need to own a Kindle, Kobo, or Nook device to read ebooks. Chances are, whatever you are using to read this blog post—has a FREE Amazon Kindle app that will allow you to shop in the massive Amazon ebook library. Some other retailers offer similar apps, but I'm really only familiar with the Kindle app because I own more Kindles than I can shake a stick at and still have that app on my phone, Macbook, PC, and Tablet.

Why am I telling you this? Because the dear lady behind me in line for coffee today, said she'd love to support me, but doesn't own an e-reader. First of all, some of my books like The Dark Unicorn can be purchased in paperback (she had been admiring the cover of the said book on my phone screen), but the ability to read ebooks even when you prefer physical books is practically a necessity for the extreme book lover. That's because authors have so many more options when creating content for the ebook market. Say an author wants to write some bonus short stories, in a world you love with characters you can't get out of your head! How do they deliver those little slices of heaven? They might not be long enough to turn into a book by themselves, and waiting until you have enough to bind up a paperback volume of them can take years in some cases.  I for one, am all for instant gratification when it comes to my OTPs, and as. an author I like the flexibility ebooks offer for publication.

Of course, I just smiled and said thanks. Mostly because that was in the real world and this is this internet, I am way smoother on the internet, but maybe that woman from Starbucks will see this blog and I know it was for her. ;)

BOOK BOYFRIEND MONTH: The Boyfriends of Skeleton Lake (Raiden, Conrad, and Alex)

Skeleton Lake is on sale for .99, and Book Boyfriend month continues with the boys from The Hollows Series. Skeleton Lake is a dark YA paranormal romance. Yes, they are Skeletons. No, that's not gross. I assure you, it's probably not like you're thinking. There are many boys and men in Skeleton Lake--they're all husbands, boyfriends, or love interests; but I'm only going to talk about the three main boys today.

Looking for the Epic 25,000 Follower Giveaway? Click here.

Conrad is a broken heart wrapped in a bit of broken flesh. Some of his holes are obvious, some of them he was born with, and even more holes were caused by the repetitive wounding of those he is forced to live around. Conrad, unlike the other boys, was born at Skeleton Lake. As as a result, he lacks the ability to really exist in the normal human world. For Conrad being stubborn could be considered a positive attribute. Over-compensating is a way of life.

But it he does have some fantastic qualities too. Conrad is easily the most forgiving of all the boys at Skeleton Lake. Not that he can't hold a grudge right along with the rest of them, just that he lets go before everyone else. Even if he doesn't show it. Sometimes he's an ass because everyone expects him to be an ass. He is the best and worst sort of underdog, and I know many fangirls who have bled right along with him every time he's hurt.

Then there is Alex. Alex is Lena's boyfriend--soul mate--enough. Alex is a lot of people's favorites because he's like an amazing boyfriend when so many of the others fail miserably. He's not controlling and he doesn't need to be. Lena already gets the lifestyle and doesn't struggle against it like Marlow does, and like Cassie did before her. Alex is totally bossed around by a tiny blond and he is really, really, alright with that. Alex is supportive, sensible, and totally swoon worthy. He's a good friend, a good person, but he's totally going to hell. Nothing, I did not say that.

Lastly.... well... OK, I don't even know how to talk about Raiden without divulging major plot points. The thing is, Raiden is just as broken as Conrad but people pretend he isn't. Which is hard for him. He doesn't like being pitied, but no one really has any idea what to do with him. When Marlow is--dropped--into his life he's not ready for it and neither is anyone else. He really needs to grieve, but he's not really allowed to. He really needs space, when there is none to be found. Raiden doesn't have obvious holes--he has fault lines a mile wide and getting deeper by the day. I think the key to understanding Raiden is understanding how people grieve. Also, Raiden is the blond one.

I recently had someone write in a review say they didn't even know what the characters looked like. I thought that was kind of sad because it's there, It might not be together in one neat block of text--conveniently laid out in front of a mirror to make it easy on you--but if you will look there is far more than eye and hair color, more than angles and lips.

But the lips are kind of important.

Want more of the Skeletons? You can Also get the prequel to Skeleton Lake--the reason Raiden was broken to begin with--The Skeleton Song, on sale for .99 as well. OR get both books in a ebox set for $1.88 on Kindle

AUTHORS:: SIGN UP FOR THE Friday the 13th "BOOK ARE FOR FREAKS" ebook sale.

It's been a while since I have had a book sale on the blog. Moving messes with everything. If you have done one before, this should be easy for you--not much has changed. Except for maybe my reach.

So here's the deal.

Are you an author that has an ebook(s) you would like to sell for .99 or less Friday the 13th- Sunday 15th? GREAT, because I am having a sale here and you are invited!

So how does the sale work?

For sale participants, there is hardly any work involved at all! You have to fill out this form, and make sure all the books you want listed are on Amazon and are .99 or less before 11:59 PM Central Time Thursday night. Then you have to agree to do some very minor promo work. You need to mention the sale a whopping three times, on any website (where allowed) or social media network during the duration of the sale. So Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. That is as little as once per day! You also must post the sale info sometime over the weekend on your blog or website. Of course, you are welcome to do more promo work--just don't spam people! I'll even make it easy on you by providing web content, and even example tweets.

That's it! If you are an overachiever (I am!) You can also add the sale badge to your website. It will come in your welcome email.

Feeling generous? I plan on giving away an Amazon gift card and other prizes during the sale. If you would like to toss in a few bucks to get a larger gift card (drives traffic) let me know in the giveaway section of the form. If you would like to give away ebooks, books, swag, or anything else, let me know--but do realize I might not be able to give away everything offered. Not because I don't love every one of you, or because what you have isn't awesome--it's just too much leg work to give away 30 individual ebooks so I like to group things together in packs that make sense.

Just to recap:
  1. Must have Kindle books on sale for .99 or less by Thursday night.
  2. Must be willing to do some light promo work.
  3. Must fill out this form before Thursday at NOON central.
Into numbers? I keep track of a lot of them through the sale, and share them with all the participants at the sale end wrap up email.

HEY YOU, yeah, you! Whatcha reading?

So I have to hand a book in to my editor after this long weekend, and I have to hand in another (surprise!) book a week or so into June. NO ONE PANIC! (I mean, besides me!) I know that many authors tend to stop reading when they are staring down the barrel of hellacious deadlines, but I am not one of them. Actually, I read crap tons when I am busy writing and editing. There's a good reason for that, it's because I'm tired. I know what your thinking--wouldn't your time be better served sleeping if your so tired?

Well, yeah. IF I was talking about that kind of exhaustion. But I'm not. There is something so draining about living inside your own world for so long--searching for lost commas, coming up with solutions to problems you caused. It's not bad in small doses, but when you start doing it for hours and hours a day you start looking for a way out. That's why I have to read, even when I'm too busy for it. To fix the mental fatigue that I bring down on myself, I like to escape to a universe that I am not the god of.

Currently I am re-reading all of Cassandra Clare novels to get ready for the next book, what are you reading? What kind of things do you do to relax?

P.S.
Next week I am celebrating 1k Facebook likes... I am a little behind ;)

Angela Kulig Sits Down, Shuts Up, & Finishes That Book She's Been Writing

A funny story--I asked my publisher. So, how many times has my book been downloaded since it's been on sale? (See post below for details on it being free.)

Publisher sends me the number, and I send the number back asking if they accidentally included too many zeroes.

ZEROES!!

They didn't by the way.

That is a pretty good motivator.

Skeleton Song is coming out soon...

But I can't decide what should be next and I don't even know if Red Iris will let me have my way. What do you think? Skeleton Lake sequel? Stand alone supernatural romance? You shouldn't worry either way--it's likely they will both be out before Spring is over!
